Alfred Hitchcock was a British-American filmmaker known as the Master of Suspense whose films codified the grammar of the thriller and the systematic manipulation of audience emotion.
Hitchcock developed the grammar of cinematic suspense — the bomb under the table, the MacGuffin, the guilt-by-identification — while also producing some of the most formally daring films in Hollywood history, including 'Vertigo', 'Psycho', and 'Rear Window'.
