Summary

Nazi ideologist and author of The Myth of the Twentieth Century (1930) — the second most important ideological text of Nazism after Mein Kampf, articulating a racial-spiritual worldview centered on Nordic blood and spirit. Hanged at Nuremberg.

Core Contribution

Nazi racial mysticism: Rosenberg's Myth of the Twentieth Century is an attempt to create a comprehensive Nazi worldview — a racial mysticism in which the Nordic Aryan spirit (Geist) is the creator of all genuine civilization, corrupted by Jewish materialism, Roman Christianity, and racial mixing. Rosenberg rejected Christianity as a Jewish corruption of the genuine Nordic spiritual heritage and promoted a neo-pagan 'German Christianity.' Even Hitler found it unreadable but useful. Rosenberg served as head of the Nazi Party's foreign affairs, Reich Minister for the Occupied Eastern Territories, and the ideological coordinator of Nazi cultural policy. His cultural looting program (the ERR) was the largest organized art theft in history.
