Book of Jubilees

Summary

An ancient Jewish text from the Second Temple period that retells and expands upon Genesis and the early chapters of Exodus. Also called 'Lesser Genesis,' it organizes sacred history into 49-year jubilee periods and elaborates on angels, demons, solar calendar, and covenant law.

Core Contribution

One of the earliest examples of rewritten scripture; introduces jubilee chronology, expands on the Watchers/fallen angels tradition, and reflects a distinct priestly-calendar Judaism that diverges from mainstream rabbinic development.
