Emanuel Swedenborg (1688–1772) was a Swedish scientist, philosopher, and Christian mystic who, after a visionary crisis in his fifties, devoted the rest of his life to documenting his journeys through heaven and hell in works like Heaven and Hell and Arcana Coelestia.
Created an extraordinarily detailed mystical theology of the spiritual world; influenced Blake, Goethe, Emerson, Jung, and New Age spirituality.
