Summary

Blake's longest and most ambitious prophetic book — the culmination of his mythological system, in which Albion (humanity) falls into division and is eventually redeemed through Los (the creative imagination).

Core Contribution

Blake's mythological system fully deployed: Albion, Los, Enitharmon, the Zoas, the Spectre, the Emanation — all the figures of his mythology in their final configuration. The fall of Albion as the fall of universal humanity into division, selfhood, and oppression. The redemption: through the forgiveness of sins and the sacrifice of Jesus. Blake's most difficult and most comprehensive work — the summit of his prophetic poetry.
