Middle Stoic philosopher from Rhodes who adapted Stoicism to Roman aristocratic life, moderating the rigidity of early Stoicism and influencing Cicero's On Duties.
Modified Stoic ethics: the wise man is an ideal; practical ethics must address the progress toward virtue (prokoptón); appropriate action (kathêkon) is more central than perfect action (katorthoma). His adaptation made Stoicism palatable to Roman political culture.
