The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency's early classified remote viewing program (1978–1983) — the direct predecessor to STARGATE — using operationally trained military remote viewers for intelligence purposes.
Project Grill Flame represents the operational phase of military remote viewing: unlike the research programs at SRI (Targ & Puthoff), Grill Flame trained military personnel as operational remote viewers — intelligence assets rather than research subjects. The Fort Meade unit produced viewers (including McMoneagle) who were used for actual intelligence tasks. The program's operational character distinguishes it from pure research: the military was attempting to use psychic phenomena as an intelligence tool, not merely study it. Folded into CENTER LANE (1983), later becoming SUN STREAK, then STARGATE.
