Neal Stephenson's 2015 hard science fiction novel in which the Moon explodes and humanity has two years to preserve its genetic diversity in orbit before a bombardment kills all life on Earth — notable for its rigorous orbital mechanics and civilization-rebuilding detail.
Provides one of the most technically rigorous fictional treatments of human civilization preservation — how to save humanity's genetic and cultural legacy in space — making it a thought experiment on long-term existential planning that informs rationalist and longtermist discourse.
