Jung's concept of 'acausal connecting principle' — the meaningful coincidence of inner psychic events and outer circumstances that cannot be causally related.
Against pure causality: Jung argued that some coincidences are too meaningful to be mere chance yet have no causal connection — a third category beyond causality and pure chance. The inner psychic state (a dream, a thought) and an outer event resonate in meaning. Developed with Wolfgang Pauli (physicist): the unus mundus — a unified order underlying both mind and matter from which synchronicities emerge. Connects to the collective unconscious and archetypes. Controversial but influential in Jungian and philosophical circles.
