Thomas Robert Malthus (1766–1834) was a British economist and clergyman whose Essay on the Principle of Population (1798) argued that population grows geometrically while food production grows arithmetically, inevitably producing poverty, famine, and misery—the 'Malthusian trap.'
Developed the population-resources trap concept; foundational in demography and economics; Malthusianism remains the paradigm for resource pessimism.
No conceptual posterity found.
