Plato's cosmological dialogue in which the Demiurge (a craftsman god) creates the physical universe by imposing mathematical form on a pre-existing receptacle (the chora), using the Forms as models.
The Demiurge creates the world as a living, rational animal; the soul of the world is mathematical. The chora: a third kind of thing — neither Form nor particular — the receptacle of generation. The regular solids correspond to the four elements. This cosmology dominated medieval natural philosophy through its Latin translation.
