British philosopher who developed the knowledge-first epistemology — knowledge is the most fundamental epistemic state, not analyzable into justified true belief — and has contributed to the logic of vagueness and modal epistemology.
Knowledge and Its Limits: knowledge is prime — it cannot be analyzed into belief plus conditions; the norm of assertion is knowledge; knowledge-how and knowledge-that are both forms of knowledge. Sorites paradox: vagueness is epistemic — there is a sharp boundary, but we cannot know where it is. The Philosophy of Philosophy: philosophical thought experiments have the same epistemological status as ordinary intuitions about cases.
