Summary

Jean Houston and Robert Masters's research foundation exploring altered states of consciousness, imagery, and human potential — a key institution in the Human Potential Movement.

Core Contribution

The Foundation conducted research into the psychological effects of psychedelic drugs (before prohibition), sensory deprivation, and imagery techniques on consciousness and human capability. Jean Houston's work on 'sacred psychology' and the mythic dimensions of consciousness emerged from this institutional base. One of several organizations (alongside Esalen) that formed the institutional infrastructure of the Human Potential Movement and 1960s–70s consciousness research.
