Summary

Carlo (1899–1937) and Nello Rosselli — Italian Jewish brothers who were among the most important anti-fascist intellectuals of the 1930s — Carlo founding the Justice and Liberty movement in exile, both assassinated by French fascists in 1937 on Mussolini's orders.

Core Contribution

Represent the Italian liberal-socialist tradition that tried to build a third way between Soviet communism and liberal capitalism — Carlo's 'liberal socialism' was the most serious intellectual attempt to synthesize the best of both traditions — making their assassination the destruction of Italian liberalism's most promising voice.
