Summary

Indian Buddhist philosopher who wrote the Abhidharmakosa (treasury of higher doctrine) and co-founded the Yogacara (mind-only) school — arguing that what we experience as external reality is in fact constructed by consciousness — making him the Buddhist parallel to Kant's transcendental idealism.

Core Contribution

Developed the Yogacara thesis that all experience is consciousness-only (vijnanavada) — there are no external objects, only the consciousness that represents them — and the storehouse consciousness (alaya-vijnana) as the repository of karmic seeds that generate experience.
